Founded in 1965 and located in Irvine, Orange County, UC Irvine is a renowned public research university and a member of the Association of American Universities, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, and the International Forum of Public Universities.
Despite its relatively short history, UCI has earned a high academic reputation, ranking among the top ten public universities in the U.S. following UC Berkeley and UCLA. Five faculty members have won Nobel Prizes, including physicist Frederick Reines and chemist F. Sherwood Rowland, who both won in 1995, making UCI the first university where faculty members won Nobel Prizes in two different fields in the same year.
