The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a public university located in Birmingham, Alabama. It has a nationally recognized academic health center and is Alabama's largest research institution.
Established in 1969, UAB is one of the newest and largest university institutions in Alabama based on faculty composition and education budget. The university enrolls approximately 16,200 students.
UAB's rectangular campus spans 111 hectares in the southern part of Birmingham, with a green central area called the Campus Green. Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama, known as the "Magic City" and the "Pittsburgh of the South."
UAB comprises six colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, Collat School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Education, School of Public Health, and School of Medicine.
